The Guardian Who Buries the Ball
When the Guardian of the Mound drives the ball into the earth, the Warriors of the Bat lose their sky. Here is the cause — and the effect.
A ground-ball arm does not chase the strikeout. It commands the ball downward, into the dust, where gloves wait. Set such a Guardian in a small park, where the high ball would otherwise fly into the seats, and the Warriors are left swinging at a sky that no longer rewards them. The Contest narrows. The runs dry. This is not fortune — it is the shape of the ground meeting the shape of the arm.
The reading descends each dawn within the Temple.
